Honda Civic maintenance schedule

Covers: 2023 model year, US market, Civic sedan. Last checked: 29 October 2026.

A 2023 Honda Civic doesn't follow a fixed mileage list. Its Maintenance Minder works out the oil life as a percentage and shows what is due once that drops to 15%. Honda sets a few outer limits: change the oil at least once a year and the brake fluid at least every 3 years.

Always check your owner's manual. This page sums up the manufacturer's published schedule in our own words. Your vehicle's year, engine, country and the way you drive can all change the intervals.

Heavy use and tough conditions

Mountain driving and dusty or sooty air

Honda says driving slowly in mountains runs the transmission hotter, so the fluid may need changing sooner than the Minder suggests: every 25,000 miles for CVT cars and every 37,500 miles for manuals. In dusty conditions the air cleaner element is replaced every 15,000 miles, and so is the dust and pollen filter if you drive mostly in cities with a lot of soot in the air.

Reset the Minder after each service

Honda warns that skipping the reset gives wrong intervals, which can lead to serious mechanical problems. A dealer resets it after the work. If someone else does the service, you reset it yourself from the driver information screen.

Regional differences

This is the US schedule from Honda. Canadian cars use a slightly different list and different distance units, and other countries have their own manuals. Check the one for your country and year.

This page covers the Civic sedan. Honda's hatchback, Si, Type R and hybrid versions, and other model years, have their own manuals. Honda's manual gives no fixed mileage for the main services, so neither do we.

How to track this in Loggy

Loggy is a free maintenance logbook app for iOS and Android. Because Honda's Minder works on oil life and not mileage, a logbook helps: record each service with the odometer reading, then you can see how many miles the oil actually lasted. Add your Civic, log every service with the receipt, and set a yearly reminder as a backstop for the 12-month oil limit.

The free plan has unlimited vehicles, reminders, PDF export and vehicle transfer, and no ads.

Frequently asked questions

How often should a Honda Civic have its oil changed?

Honda's 2023 US manual doesn't give a fixed mileage. The Maintenance Minder calculates the remaining oil life, shows a message when it reaches 15%, and Honda says to change the oil at least once a year even if no message appears.

What do the Maintenance Minder codes mean on a Civic?

Main items are A (replace engine oil) and B (replace engine oil and filter, plus brake, suspension and fluid checks). Sub items 1 to 7 cover tyre rotation, air filters and drive belt, transmission fluid, spark plugs and valve clearance, coolant, and brake fluid.

How often does a Civic need brake fluid?

When the Minder shows sub item 7. Honda's 2023 US manual adds that if it hasn't shown up within 36 months of the last reset, change the brake fluid every 3 years anyway.

Do I have to reset the Maintenance Minder myself?

Only if someone other than a Honda dealer did the service. Honda's manual says to reset it after every maintenance service so the next intervals are right.
