Guides › Selling with a service history

How to prove your car's service history when you sell it

Loggy keeps your car's service history as a logbook you can hand to a buyer, either as a PDF or as a free transfer to their own Loggy account. Log each service with its receipt and photos, add your old paper records, and the buyer sees the whole story in one place.

Start with the records you already have

Most people have the history in three places: a paper logbook, a pile of receipts and a few photos on their phone. You can bring all of it into Loggy.

Why a buyer can trust it

Loggy works like a paper logbook. For 14 days after you enter a log you can edit or delete it freely. After that you can still edit it, but the change shows in the log's history with a Modified date, and the log can no longer be deleted.

That makes the records much harder to fake, which is what gives a service history its value when you sell. The rules in full

Option 1: send the buyer a PDF

The PDF is free, and the buyer does not need Loggy to open it.

  1. Select the vehicle on the Home or Vehicles page.
  2. Tap the PDF button near the top of the Vehicle Records page.
  3. Choose Detailed Report or Summary Report, then tap Generate PDF.
  4. Tap Download PDF or Share PDF.

Summary ReportA table of all logs with their detailsA quick overview for a buyer or mechanic

Option 2: transfer the vehicle to the buyer

A transfer hands over the vehicle and every log in it to the buyer's Loggy account. It is free. The buyer keeps the history going from there.

  1. Add the vehicle's VIN in its Basic Details if it isn't there yet. A transfer needs one.
  2. Tap the Info icon on the Vehicle Records page, then Transfer Vehicle.
  3. Enter the buyer's email twice and tap Transfer Vehicle.
  4. The buyer accepts it from Transfer Request in their menu.

The buyer needs a free Loggy account first, so ask them to sign up. If you change your mind, tap Withdraw on the Basic Details page any time before they accept. Full transfer guide

Which one should you use?

Send the PDF when the buyer just wants to see the history, or does not use apps. Transfer the vehicle when the buyer will keep the car and wants to carry on logging. You can do both: send the PDF while they decide, then transfer once they have paid.

If you want to share a vehicle with someone while still owning it, use Share a vehicle instead. That is a Premium feature.

Try it on your own vehicles. Loggy is free on iOS and Android, with unlimited vehicles and no ads.

Frequently asked questions

Does the buyer need Loggy to see the service history?

Not for the PDF, which opens like any PDF. For a transfer the buyer needs a free Loggy account, because the vehicle moves into their account.

Can I add service history from before I owned the car?

Yes. If the car came with a paper logbook, photograph the pages and add them as an Old Service Log with a start and end date. Your own services go in as normal logs.

Is exporting a service history PDF free?

Yes. The vehicle PDF, with a Detailed or Summary option, is on the free plan. Downloadable fuel, expense and income reports are Premium.

Can I change a log after I enter it?

For 14 days you can edit or delete it freely. After that you can still edit it, but the history records the change and the log cannot be deleted.
