Genie GS scissor lift maintenance schedule
Covers: Genie GS-1530 to GS-5390 scissor lifts, from Genie Maintenance Manual 1272215GT (October 2024). Last checked: 3 November 2026.
Genie's maintenance manual for its GS scissor lifts sets a quarterly inspection and an annual inspection, plus a programme based on engine and machine hours. New machines get a one-off service at 50 hours and a check at 150 hours. After that, the programme runs on hours: an engine service every 1,000 hours, and the hydraulic filters, hydraulic oil and scissor arm wear pads every 2,000 hours. A machine that has been out of service for more than 3 months must have the quarterly inspection done before it goes back to work.

Heavy use and tough conditions
Out of service for more than 3 months
Genie says a machine that has been out of service for longer than 3 months must complete the quarterly inspection before use.
Records and who does the work
Genie says to keep completed inspection reports for at least 4 years, or longer if your employer, jobsite or local rules require it. It also says maintenance inspections must be done by a person trained and qualified on this machine, and that for some procedures it strongly recommends an authorised Genie dealer service centre. It adds that how often examinations are needed may also depend on national rules.
Regional differences
This is the October 2024 edition of Genie's maintenance manual, which lists the model and serial number ranges it covers. Genie publishes other manuals for earlier serial numbers and other machines, and local rules on lift inspections differ from place to place. Use the manual for your exact model and serial number.
This page covers the GS scissor lifts in that manual (GS-1530 to GS-5390, including the 2669, 3369, 4069, 3384 and 4390 ranges). It does not cover Genie boom lifts, telehandlers or other scissor ranges. It also leaves out the pre-use inspection in the operator's manual, the engine makers' own service schedules and the steps for each procedure, which are in Genie's manual.
How to track this in Loggy
Loggy is a free maintenance logbook app for iOS and Android. Add your lift, set the odometer to hours, and log the hour meter reading with each inspection. Loggy's reminders work by date for now, so set a quarterly and a yearly date reminder, and use the inspection checklist feature for your own pre-use checks. Keep each completed inspection report with the machine's records.
- Log each service with its date, reading, cost, receipt and photos.
- Set a reminder for the next service. Loggy reminders go off on a date, not at an odometer reading, so pick the date from how much you usually drive.
- Add your old paper records so the whole history is in one place.
- Export the history as a PDF or transfer it to the next owner when you sell.
The free plan has unlimited vehicles, reminders, PDF export and vehicle transfer, and no ads.
Frequently asked questions
How often does a Genie scissor lift need servicing?
Genie's maintenance manual sets a quarterly inspection, an annual inspection, and a programme by hours: a one-off service at 50 hours, a check at 150 hours, then jobs every 40, 100, 1,000 and 2,000 hours depending on the item.
What does a Genie annual inspection include?
It depends on the model. Genie lists drive hub oil and fastener torque, king pin torque, the oscillate axle, the function pump, the down limit switch descent delay and the platform overload sensors, each for the models named in the manual.
When should the hydraulic oil and filters be changed on a Genie scissor lift?
Genie lists the hydraulic filters being replaced at 50 hours and then every 2,000 hours, and the hydraulic oil being tested or replaced every 2,000 hours. Both are inspected every quarter.
What if a scissor lift has been parked up for months?
Genie says a machine that has been out of service for more than 3 months must complete the quarterly inspection before use.
Do all Genie scissor lifts share this schedule?
No. This is the schedule in one manual for the GS models and serial numbers it lists. Other models and earlier builds have their own manuals.
